Dog Days Enrichment Programme |
Our philosophy of working with dogs is all about enrichment that allows dogs to explore their senses and express their natural instincts; whether it’s as simple as giving a dog an interactive toy, or as complex as training a new behaviour or laying a scent trail. Sarah researched and developed an enrichment programme for the SPCA Auckland and it is a special passion of ours. We have applied that research to create a busy daily enrichment programme for Dog Days.
Example of a Dog's Day at Dog Days!
Morning enrichment activity: Supervised outdoor play with lots of exercise and adventures in the back paddock, back to the kennels for breakfast, then out for more adventures! Midday chill out time: Hang out time in the den or the kennels with toys, crates, blankets and cushions for napping, plus relaxing essential oils, brushing, pats and massages from the humans. Afternoon enrichment activity: Relaxed outdoor time, sunbathing, sniffing, play and some "find it" nose games or clicker training to get the body and mind nice and tired. Or if it's raining, a barnyard adventure, with hay bales to clamber over and lots of good barnyard smells! Then back to the kennels for dinner. End of day ritual: Everyone onto the back porch to get cleaned up and settled down for the evening. Beds, kennels and blankets are provided for the evening activity of watching the humans inside making dinner and doing human stuff. Bedtime: A quick visit to the back yard for a wee and then it's off to bed with a treat! |
